I am going to a May Day party next weekend, and although it will probably be fairly bourgeois and most of the guests will lack any sense of imagination or creative wonderment in terms of wardrobe, I envision Isabel from The Dreamers as my muse. A red beret seems essential, but I require substance as well as style, and so I'm thinking a dash of Elizabeth Gurley Flynn fashion-forwardness and a little of Brody Dalle's gritty chic are needed to round out the concept. Other influences are the work of Tamara de Lempicka and a Christian Schaad painting I saw at the Neue Galerie last year. And, of course, the rebellious glamour of Tina Modotti. I think I'll go pick up a copy of Daniel Singer's Prelude to Revolution: France in May 1968 for inspiration. Ideas welcome.
